The Last Remnants of the forces of Light struggle to overcome an evil wrought by ancient malice…
In the world of Valor, the Dark Lord Abaddon—out of his hatred of Men and Vaaspar, the Lord of Light—continues to wage war with his army of Draemhas, the Infernal Spirits of Dragoth, against the kingdoms of Gaia belonging to Men. For nearly twenty years, the Western Lands have maintained peace, but the Dark Lord cunningly devises a plan that will shake the foundations of the Western kingdoms. With the land of Vash’ala already bending to Abaddon’s will and the land of Alterash trapped by the Enemy’s spell, all hope rests in the hands of the Boltian peoples.
It is in the small village of Kesh that Victor Perigas, the fifteen year old son of two, powerful Alchemists, is called to leave behind his life of serenity to embark on a journey that will change his life forever. Led by Lord Edgar, the King of Bolteras, with the ever trusty Grinshawl, Victor and his adoptive father, Arthur, set out to the glorious capital city of Vallicore with a band of their countrymen and a group of newly acquired friends to attend the Boltian Council.
On their journey, great knowledge of Magic and the power known as Elúvías is revealed to them. With the aid of Mages, Dragons, elite soldiers and some unlikely heroes, the Boltians race against time to prepare for an impending war against the Draemhas.

This book was an awesome read! There was a lot of great backstory and character development, which means that I'll (finally) get to be one of those nerds who says, "The book was a lot better," when the movie comes out...! The basics of the book are familiar (i.e. Biblical similarities in the beginning and an impending good vs. evil war) yet, the personal interactions and imagery make the offering feel fresh and fun. There are a LOT of new names of people, places, and concepts flying around to draw you into the magical world of the author's imagination!!

I think anyone looking for an exciting read would be happy to get in on the ground floor of this series. There is a vast expanse of information that I think we'll need to know for the next books in the series, so I'm planning on reading it again --before the next installment is released-- just to make sure I've got everything right.

The characters are memorable and (mostly) loveable... After all, there are some evil ones we've just GOT to hate, right? I don't want to set up any spoilers, but there is tremendous room for future romances, betrayals, odd-pairings, etc. (((There's also one character, in particular, that I can't wait to catch up with in the next book!!!)))

I could go on and on about how good I think this debut piece is from a talented, young author with a bright future... or how the book is appropriate for just about all ages north of 12 or 13 or something... OR about how this book can make even a non-fantasy reader forget about life for a while and stretch out his/her mind in an exciting new "world of evil wrought from malice old"... but, hey... the book is just $2.99 right now for *Kindle. What are you waiting for??

*I should mention that I actually bought a paperback copy from the Booksellers at Laurelwood in Memphis, TN. I'm just good like that. Plus, I'm hoping maybe I can get the author to sign it for me...??

The Alchemist Stone War of the Last Remnant Book 1 edition by Joel Gillespie Duncan Long William Mitchum Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

I finally got some time to read this book. It was great! I loved how it ties with biblical accounts! Looking forward to more from this author!
I really enjoyed this book! I loved the way biblical aspects were implemented into the story. I also loved the characters, especially Tristan! ) The trial of fire scene was wonderful and I also thoroughly enjoyed the idea of the contest of champions. I would recommend this book to any fantasy fiction readers out there! Can't wait for the next book!
First, let me say I am not attracted to fantasy. I read the prologue, amused that it resembled God, the creation, and Satan being expunged from heaven as recorded in the Bible. As a Bible student, I felt uneasy with this, comparing it to Bible truths in the book of Genesis.

Although this is well written, the long paragraphs drove me crazy. I longed for some dialogue, not just description and story. I found myself skimming, then page-jumping through two, maybe three chapters. Perhaps this book will earn five stars from fantasy lovers.
The book starts slow as the characters and background are developed. As the storyline moves forward the pace of the action picks up and becomes an easy, enjoyable read. I am an avid reader, particularly of fantasy and enjoy the traditional good vs. evil storyline. The book imports biblical themes and teaching that add meaning for a Christian reader, but do not prevent someone not familiar with Christian teaching from enjoying the book. Several of the characters are very likeable and easy to root for. The book has humor and action, trying to make serious points without being too serious. The conclusion is appropriate, but has open story lines that leaves the reader wanting to see the next installment in this series.
Too wordy and stilted dialogue, bogging down the storyline with too much description and little action. The idea could have made a good read with better writing.
Good plot, great character's, classic good vs. evil story.

Darkness is descending after years of relative peace in the realm. Read as the kingdom rises up to met the threat. Great action thru out the book. Hero`s, fallen angels, angels, and a heavy dose of God.

Great fantasy story will undertones of religion, noticeable thru dialog and beliefs presented thru out the novel. Not heavy handed in the religious theme, but not just fluff either. Great balance in the story telling
